Piero Gianolla is associate professor in "Stratigraphy and Sedimentology" at Ferrara University where he teaches "Geological mapping" and "Stratigraphy". He has been involved in several cartographic projects in the Alps (CARG Project) and in different projects dealing with the definition and conservation of geological Heritage in Italy and Europe. His main research topics are sequence stratigraphic methodologies, Triassic stratigraphy of the Tethyan Domain, Sedimentology of carbonate platforms and mixed basins, Palaeoclimatology of Triassic and Geoheritage. He is Member of the Italian Commission of Stratigraphy (ICS), of the International Subcommission of Stratigraphic Nomenclature (IUGS/ISSC) and corresponding member of the Subcommission on Triassic Stratigraphy (IUGS/STS).
